Anam Fitness for Living was created with one clear purpose: to help people improve and maintain their quality of life through specialized, individualized fitness.

Many of the people I work with live with medical conditions, chronic pain, or bodies that don’t always respond to traditional exercise approaches. Anam was built to be a place where those individuals feel safe, supported, and truly understood—while still being challenged in the right ways.

The name Anam comes from Gaelic, meaning “soul” or “breath.”
Both are central to how I approach movement.

Breath is foundational—not just for exercise, but for nervous system regulation, pain management, and overall function. And “soul” reflects something just as important: that every person who walks through the door is more than a diagnosis. Their experiences, goals, fears, and strengths all matter.

The Anam logo was something I designed myself, and it actually began as a tattoo before it became a business symbol. It’s a reflection of everything this work represents:

  • The tree symbolizes life, growth, resilience, and a connection to nature

  • Its curved lines represent breath, movement, and the reality that many bodies—including those with scoliosis—don’t follow straight lines

  • The leaves reflect individuality—each one different, yet all connected as part of something larger

Anam also grew from a very personal place.

My initial goal was to work with individuals with scoliosis. Over time, that expanded—first into conditions I’ve personally experienced or seen within my own family, and then into a wider range of complex and chronic conditions. What stayed consistent was the approach: thoughtful, individualized, and rooted in understanding the person in front of me.

Education is a key part of that process. Sessions at Anam are not just about exercise—they involve conversation, learning, and building awareness so clients can better understand their own bodies and feel more confident in how they move.

At its core, Anam is about creating a space where people feel:

  • Heard

  • Safe

  • Respected

  • And supported in building a stronger, more capable version of themselves—at their own pace

“I am incredibly grateful to have found a resource like Colleen. Her extensive knowledge of scoliosis and hypermobility, including conditions such as Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, is truly exceptional. What sets her apart is her unwavering belief in her patients’ experiences. She listens, validates, and understands in a way that is both rare and deeply meaningful..”
